Simple white model landscape

• Block form surrounding building painted out in white or neutral tones

Modelmaking stages

1. Build a scale model landscape of the location for the development accurately to site survey plans and contour drawings. The site boundaries will be cut-out of the model landscape so the proposals for the site can be easily dropped into position. Clients at this stage have the option of a full colour representation of the area defining roads, pavements and grassed areas using speckled painting techniques or having a plain white model with raised pavement to define roads, car parks etc.

2. All surrounding existing buildings will be made, to provided or sourced dimensions/heights, in block or more detailed form. This will give an accurate representation of the site and how the new development will impact on its surroundings.

At this stage the architects or developers will be encouraged to take the model away to their offices so it can be used in the design development process. I my experience this give architects a chance to play around with the building form and to view various options in context and see how designs impact on their surroundings without too much expense.

3. During the architectural design process sketch models can be made in-house or we can produce a series of block form models made from rigid foam and styrene sheet to simply show number of floors, floor slabs, balcony’s and any unique features of the design.

4. After the design process has progressed and a final design has been developed then the model can be revisited. At this stage any changes to the site or the landscape architecture can be modelled and a full presentation architectural model can be made of the new development.

5. Finally the scale model landscape can be completed with all relevant features i.e. trees, shrubs and any natural features, cars and people will be added to help give proportional scale to the model. Labelling of streets, scale/key and any other important information can be added with rub-down lettering if requested.
